PDTRA, DNR, and City of Morris Partnership Formed for Crissy Dam Project

The Pomme de Terre River Association (PDTRA) is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the City of Morris, and Houston Engineering to replace the aging dam on Crissy Lake in Morris, MN. The dam, also known locally as the “Mill Dam,” will be replaced with a more environmentally friendly and safer series of rock arch rapids. This new design will improve fish passage, enhance shore fishing, eliminate the hydraulic roller that causes a “drowning machine,” and prevent potential infrastructure and safety problems that could arise if the 85-year-old dam failed.

Currently, the project team is surveying the site and collecting data. Houston Engineering and the PDTRA will join the Morris City Council at their January 28th meeting to go over potential ideas and address any concerns.  Once there is enough background data to develop a project plan, the public will be invited to learn about the project. Opportunities for public engagement will be posted on the Pomme de Terre website and Facebook page.
