Surface Water Assessment
In early November 2010 Brett applied for a Surface Water Assessment Grant to begin in 2011 to finish monitoring lakes that were part of a previous SWAG. We found out in early January that our proposal was accepted and lake monitoring will continue through the summer of 2012! 7 monitoring events will take place throughout this time period and Brett is looking for volunteers to conduct water clarity readings. Visit the MPCA website or search the web for the Citizen Lake Monitoring Program. Or you can call or email Brett, visit the Contact Us section of the website.

In 2009 the Pomme de Terre River Association through the Stevens Soil and Water Conservation District was awarded a Surface Water Assessment Grant through the MPCA. With this grant money 11 lakes within the Pomme de Terre watershed were selected for water quality monitoring. Once a month in 2009 through June 2010 water samples were taken to assess levels of nutrients and water chemistry. Water clarity was also measured, and other readings such as temperature and pH were taken as well. The information collected was entered into the Minnesota Pollution control Agency’s water database called STORET (Now called EDA). All information collected from these lakes can be found here.
