Pomme de Terre River

Watershed Monitoring Data

The Pomme de Terre Watershed has been extensively monitored throughout periods of the last 20 years. Not all data collected is available at this website, however data for this watershed is available on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency website (EDA database). Citizen monitoring has supplied important data relating to clarity and quality of the River. To find data by county, follow the link provided below:

Muddy Creek Data

During the summer of 2006, samples were collected at sites in Stevens and Swift County in order to update the water quality data of the Pomme de Terre and learn the effects of the Muddy Creek tributary, which joins the river in the middle of Stevens County. In 2009 more monitoring was done on this stretch of river, as well as Intensive Watershed Monitoring through the MPCA. Data collected will be used to identify areas in greatest need of restoration and/or protection. The Pomme de Terre will use these areas to write a Major Watershed plan which will be used to apply for future funding. This project will begin in May of 2011.

Drywood Creek Data

Starting in 2008, the Drywood Creek sub-watershed, located near the Stevens-Swift county line, was the subject of MPCA Phase II biological monitoring. Biological monitoring measures and evaluates the condition of rivers and streams by studying fish, aquatic invertebrates and plant life.

Through the MPCA's intensive watershed monitoring, specific areas in the Drywood Creek region will be located and chosen for the Major Watershed project to begin in May, 2011. Other projects are currently underway is this area as well through the Pomme de Terre Association's Fecal 319 grant. More information on these projects will come out after they are completed.

Current Lakes Data

To see lake data collected through the 2009 Surface Water Grant vist the MPCA's EDA and use the last drop down box to select Pomme de Terre lakes assessment project(SWAG).

The majority of the lake basins found within the Pomme de Terre watershed are considered "shallow lakes" by the Minnesota DNR definition and are lakes that are 10 feet deep or less, and are dominated by plant life.
The DNR division of Wildlife conducts lakes surveys to assess their health and habitat condition. Many of the lakes in the Pomme de Terre have such information collected and Brett will post them as they arrive.
